Finnish marine industry consists of marine equipment manufacturers, turnkey suppliers, design offices, system suppliers, software providers and shipbuilding, ship repair and offshore yards. At the moment sustainability represents the key point in the all actions of Finnish maritime companies. The transition of Finland’s blue economy companies to carbon neutral and more digital business operations offers a lot of possibilities to finnish maritime companies and they have met the challenge by developing operations and products. Current Merimerkit-project combines the knowledge of the tree different organizations: Lahti Region Development (LADEC), the University of Turku (consisting two different units: the Centre for Maritime Studies CMS and the Pori Unit of the Turku School of Economics TSE). The main objective of the project is to strengthen the maritime companies competitiveness, vitality and resilience by offering the new solutions to the innovation activities in the network. The innovation activies are such that they supports the maritime industry companies aim to towards the carbon neutral operations. They also take into account the economic, environmental and business emphasis concerning the operating models to be built. The sub-objectives support achievement of the main objective: 1. Analysis of the current state of the maritime industry (the state of the maritime industry domestically and internationally) 2. Promoting national and international partnerships 3. New operating models and innovation in the maritime industry 4. Communication and information sharing The implementation of the project is based on interviews, workshops, surveys and studies and other events, where support is provided for the development of the models to support the renewal of the business network. The target group of Merimerkit is the entire maritime business field of Southern –and South-western Finland blue economy from large companies to SMEs and micro enterprises. The project offers comprehensive information package the current state of maritime industry and support business networking in Finland and abroad. As a result of the project's measures, the ability of the companies to coordinate the new sustainability based innovations will be strengthened.
