As part of long-term city planning, the City of Rovaniemi has decided to initiate a process of strategic planning, in which climate security will feature as an important module. The 'Climate Secure Rovaniemi' project will create a model to recognize, measure and prepare for the effects of climate change such as adaptation, risk mitigation and resilience as part of strategic planning. The project runs hand in hand with the Rovaniemi strategic plan 2050, ensuring the project's efficacy. The main aim of the project is create a climate resilient Rovaniemi by ensuring that climate change is raised to a strategic level in urban planning, using the Rovaniemi Strategic Plan 2050 as a tool. The project is a pilot and can be used by different governance levels in Finland and other Arctic cities. The project consists of three work packages: - WP1 Existing situation: creating a systemic framework of the effects of climate change on different sectors and adaptation tools - WP2 Foresight: understanding the role of climate change in different future scenarios, selecting a climate-wise development scenario and roadmap, defining monitoring framework for future planning - WP3 Co-design of land use and climate safety: creation of structural models and a Strategic Plan 2050 which ensures future climate safety
