Achieving national climate goals and adapting to climate change requires strong and impressive regional climate work. At the national level, additional measures are needed to strengthen the carbon sink of the land use sector, so that it would be possible to achieve the obligation of the Finnish land use sector set at the EU level. The project responds to the regional climate work coordination need. Coordination is done by organizing activities, events and workshops for the North Savo climate network. The project gathers provincial climate and circular economy actors, such as projects, municipalities and companies in joint networks and thereby creates greater impact. Regional climate work is guided by the North-Savo climate road map. The main goals of the project are 1) to develop the impressiveness of North Savo's climate work and its monitoring, 2) to promote the mitigation of climate change and adaptation to climate change in accordance with the objectives of the North Savo climate road map, 3) to utilize the latest research information in climate work and to produce information to support decision-making, 4) to promote business life's responsibility work and green transition and 5) implement well-known and impressive climate communication in an accessible manner. The carbon balance data of North Savo is updated to reflect the current situation, which promotes the implementation of effective emission reduction measures in the land use sector. The project will carry out an evaluation of the effectiveness of the measures of the North Savo climate road map, the results of which will be widely communicated in the region and nationally. Achieving the climate goals is urgent, so it is necessary to be able to determine which actions are the most relevant and effective in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. At the same time, the project will develop climate road map adaptation indicators to demonstrate impressiveness and develop the quality of monitoring. The environmental responsibility of companies is improved with the responsibility path work, which includes climate risk assessment and climate change adaptation measures. In the project, a service map serving SMEs will be prepared, which will compile tools and tips for responsibility work, as well as organizations and projects in North Savo from which support for responsibility work can be obtained. In North Savo region, adaptation to climate change has not yet been taken into account at a sufficient level in regional development, business operations and the responsibility and risk management of organizations. In order to implement the most impressive adaptation measures and implement the best operating models, the project will arrange pilots concerning climate adaptation as a purchasing service and draw up a regional adaptation plan. The project is looking for a Nordic partner. Benchmark of regional climate work is done with a partner. As a result of the project, the implementation, monitoring and updating of the North Savo climate road map have reduced the region's greenhouse gas emissions, and impressive activities have been identified and widely communicated. North Savo’s climate change adaptation plan has been drawn up, adaptation monitoring has been developed and pilots have produced new innovations and operating models for the region. Climate culture, responsibility work and measures in a green understanding have strengthened and climate communication is on, impressive and more accessible. The project is coordinated by North Savo Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment 1.3.2024-31.12.2026. The main target groups of the project are the municipalities of the region, the Pohjois-Savo Region, educational and research institutions, development companies and SMEs, as well as the residents and especially young people of North Savo.
