The project aims to promote the international growth of tourism SMEs through cooperation between the five provincial tourism regions in Eastern Lakeland, improving competitiveness and international accessibility through innovative development measures. The target group of the project are tourism and service companies (micro and SMEs) operating in the regions of Kainuu, North Savo, South Savo, South Karelia and North Karelia seeking growth in international markets. Cooperational activities has been identified as a better way to achieve better results, when seeking the new demand from international tourism markets, than mutual competition between provincial and other tourism regions. The main objectives of the project are to improve the growth and competitiveness of SMEs in the tourism sector: Objective 1: Development of transprovincial service packages through new cooperation openings Objective 2: Supporting SMEs in the changing tourism environment Objective 3: Exploiting value networks based on regional strengths in the Eastern Lakeland region. Development of cooperation as a result of long-term actions. Objective 4: Multi-channel communication Development work will underline the principles of sustainable tourism, responsibility and year-round tourism. The project contributes to the transformation of tourism in the project region towards carbon neutral Finland. The group project will contribute to increasing international tourism demand, ensuring accessibility and developing travel chains. The measures will be implemented in four work packages aiming at the following results: Result 1: Quality and quantity of transprovincial service packages and distribution channels in a digital service environment have increased Result 2: The internationalisation of SMEs has created the conditions for export growth through new partnerships and digitalisation Result 3: The conditions for the growth of international business in the tourism industry in the project area have been improved through long-term cooperation and value networks. Joint marketing can be carried out year-round through the developed material bank. Result 4: The measures have been implemented through multi-channel communication The long-term impacts and results are: - a recovery in the international growth potential and increased competitiveness of SMEs - increased visibility of the region towards the Visit Finland's Lakeland Vision 2030; The world's best-known lake district and - increase in customer volume to replace the lost target markets in the international market. Cooperation and networking has been improved and tourism service packages have been developed on a demand basis for new target groups, taking into account the sustainability. The project has promoted the digital and physical accessibility of businesses (taking into account the different stages of the customer journey). Kajaani University of Applied Sciences is the applicant and main implementer of the project together with the co-implementers, Development Company Savogrow Oy, goSaimaa Oy, Business Joensuu Oy, Mikkelin Seudun Matkailupalvelu ry. The project period is 1.1.2024-30.9.2026.
