SportDigiHub – Digital Innovation Platform for Sports and Wellbeing

In Finland, sedentary lifestyles pose a significant threat to both public health and overall productivity growth. This issue has been addressed with increased urgency in the development of the government's program. Sedentary behavior not only compromises the health and functional capacity of the population but also diminishes Finns' competitiveness in elite international sports. Technological advancements and digitization offer both challenges and opportunities in the realm of physical activity. On one hand, they introduce new leisure activities that compete for people's time, potentially reducing physical movement. On the other hand, they also present innovative ways to encourage exercise and enhance the quality of physical activities. For instance, digital fitness services can motivate users to be more active by providing accessible, engaging, and personalized workout options, along with tools to track and analyze their physical activity. This project aims to establish a data catalog system for physical activity and sports, gathering and continuously updating digital expert content in various formats. This repository will support existing training programs and, through different interfaces, cater to various client groups interested in physical activity, wellness, and targeted training on their platforms. In terms of education, a centralized knowledge base streamlines content production, improves quality, and eliminates redundancy in training development and delivery. Digital content platforms can offer flexible, effective learning experiences through online courses and distance learning, adapting to each learner's needs and pace. Furthermore, as the knowledge base grows, it opens up new avenues for adding value at the customer interface across platforms that promote physical activity, wellness, and focused coaching. Application developers can concentrate on enhancing platform functionalities. A combination of high-quality content and effective platform solutions also presents business development opportunities within the service ecosystem. The project is structured into four work packages: 1. Inventory existing content and plan its integration into the database, specifying the formats for information use and sharing (e.g., text, audio, video). 2. Define the requirements for the data catalog system, select partners for content and system development, and initiate system development. 3. Identify partners for content utilization on other platforms, design a new business model for content sharing, and implement the first interfaces with pilot partners. 4. Communicate the project's actions and outcomes. The project will result in a new, systematically updated digital database focusing on physical activity, wellness, and sports, alongside a service ecosystem leveraging this database. This includes content development organizations and service platforms utilizing the database. The data catalog system will enhance support for various customer segments and end-users in their pursuit of improved physical activity, wellness, and performance via partner platforms.
