OptiWood: Optimizing Wood Product Industry Processes in Northern Ostrobothnia

This project is planned to respond to the current challenges of the wood products industry with innovative and practical solutions, while promoting the general vitality and sustainable development of the region. The main goal of the project is to optimize the processes of the wood products industry in the Northern Ostrobothnia region with the help of smart measurement technologies, data analysis and artificial intelligence. The project focuses especially on improving the controllability of process parameters and the predictability of production, as well as optimizing the consumption of raw materials. The target group is companies in the wood product industry in the region of North Ostrobothnia and the stakeholders of these companies. The project researches and uses smart measurement technologies and machine learning for parameter optimization, quality control and improving material efficiency. New technologies enable the agile analysis of large datasets and the intelligent utilization of audited data masses in real time, such as the use of artificial intelligence-based algorithms in the automatic optimization of process parameters or the verification of deviations in multidimensional process quality control and automated root cause identification. An example solution to be used in connection with the project for the implementation of smart technological solutions, for strongly utilizing the possibilities of the technology of the wood products industry in North Ostrobothnia.
