The project's main objectives are: 1. To improve the accessibility to businesses located in Lukkotie and Avainkuja area, and more broadly the Raatekangas industrial area, by walking and cycling while simultaneously increasing the share of sustainable modes of transportation for work- and errand-related trips to the area. 2. To enhance traffic safety for different modes of transport in the Lukkotie and Avainkuja area by moving the pedestrian and bicyclist traffic from the car driveways to a separate pathway. In the project, the City of Joensuu will implement a pedestrian and bicycle path connecting Lukkotie and Avainkuja. The location is situated north of Joensuu city center in the Raatekangas industrial area. The project consists of construction of pedestrian and bicycle paths alongside roadways including their substructures and surfaces, as well as the guidance and control systems necessary for a safe and pleasant traffic environment. The project’s activities will enhance the accessibility for businesses in the Lukkotie and Avainkuja area and more broadly in the Raatekangas area by walking and cycling. The project also improves traffic safety between different modes of transport in the area. The project meets the aims of improving accessibility and operating conditions for businesses, as well as the goals of city and regional strategies and programs.
