The objective of the comprehensive traffic plan for the Kevätniemi industrial area and the Vehkakangas business area is to enable efficient and safe traffic and logistics connections and to enhance opportunities for business development, commercial activities, and infill construction in the Kevätniemi and Vehkakangas industrial and business zones, in line with the strategic goals of the City of Lieksa. The traffic plan facilitates the connection between Sammalpolku and Työpajankatu with a through traffic route suitable for both heavy traffic and emergency services. The traffic from Työpajankatu would be distributed between Kevätniementie and Kalliokatu. This connection would also serve as an alternative exit route from Kevätniemi to the south if traffic on the roundabout at Main Road 73 becomes congested. As part of the traffic plan, safe and efficient logistics routes, including pedestrian and cycling paths, would be designed to connect businesses in the Kevätniemi industrial area with the Vehkakangas business area, as well as a heavy traffic route from the Kevätniemi industrial area towards Rantakylä. The plan aims to resolve the traffic bottlenecks in the area. As part of the comprehensive traffic planning, soil studies will be conducted to assess the suitability of the land for the intended use according to the zoning plans as well as traffic implementation solutions in line with the zoning regulations. A comprehensive stormwater management study will also be prepared for the area. This assessment is necessary due to the low-lying and flood-prone nature of the region. The traffic plan will enable the integration of the areas into the existing street network, allowing traffic to be more evenly distributed across the road system, thereby improving overall traffic functionality.
