The handprint of the internationally renowned architect Alvar Aalto is widely visible in Rovaniemi. His most famous works are the Cultural and Administrative Center, and the reindeer antler shaped layout that dominates the cityscape. The goal of the project is to revive Aalto's production to become a part of the current urban life and to find new uses for its sites, especially from the perspective of tourism, experiences and creative industries. The goal of the project is to strengthen Rovaniemi's position as an innovative and vibrant Aalto and architecture city, and at the same time create new Aalto-related business, tourism, products, services and content. An overall concept will be created for the Aalto center in Rovaniemi, which will connect the center and other Aalto and architectural sites into a seamless whole. This entity serves both local residents and tourists and creates new business opportunities for local companies. The actions of the project are divided into three work packages. The first one maps the possibilities and prerequisites for harnessing Alvar Aalto's production, architecture and urban spaces for the use of business activities, especially tourism and creative industries, in a socially sustainable way. In addition, Rovaniemi's distinguishing factors are identified and ideas are widely collected as a basis for development work. The second work package focuses on the development of socially sustainable products and services related to Alvar Aalto and other architecture, which are tested with target groups. The end result of the work package is an overall concept for the operation of the Aalto Center. In the third work package, Rovaniemi's visibility and recognition as an Aalto city will be built through marketing and networks.
