VALUE – The next chapter in Circular Economy

The transition to a circular economy requires collaboration across various sectors and a range of actions in both the public and private sectors. The VALUE – The next chapter in Circular Economy project boldly takes steps towards sustainable consumption and business practices, considering the needs of different target groups. The target group for the project includes companies as well as public sector organizations and associations nationwide. The aim of the project is to develop impactful solutions implemented in various areas that genuinely promote sustainable consumption and business in Finland, creating economic added value for different stakeholders in networks and ecosystems. Based on the results and outputs of the project, organizations will be supported in making concrete strides toward the next chapter of the circular economy, producing shared value. Solutions that create added value for multiple stakeholders have great potential to spread widely in society, thus promoting a society that operates according to the principles of a circular economy. During the project, new innovative solutions will be developed and tested within collaborative networks of businesses and the public sector to promote the circular economy through product-service models (e.g., renting and borrowing), as well as reuse and resale. Unlike in other Nordic countries, Finland does not exploit the collaborative opportunities between businesses, public services, and organizations to promote the circular economy on the same scale. For instance, there is significant untapped potential in the collaboration between the library network and businesses to systematically advance the circular economy in Finland. A crucial aspect of the project's activities is generating and refining ideas to leverage business opportunities. Throughout the project, target groups will be brought together to brainstorm, test, and conceptualize new types of innovations, services, and solutions. The creation of new impactful circular economy solutions is based on the complementary expertise of the actors involved and interactive development. Demonstrations of solutions developed during the project will be tested in several participating organizations. Concrete trials will be conducted across different regions of Finland, taking various user groups into account. After the trials, in the final phase of the project, the best practices will be modeled into effective comprehensive solutions and made widely available for open use. The goal is that some practices will continue to be used even during the project. The project is carried out by Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, and Yrkeshögskolan Novia from April 1, 2025, to May 31, 2027, in collaboration with a broad national network consisting of companies, associations, and public sector organizations.
