AURI2027 - New EPBD-compliant Solar Energy and Energy Flexibility Solutions for Public Buildings

The AURI2027 project (1.3.2025 - 28.2.2027) aims to promote the use of solar energy and energy flexibility solutions in public buildings, supporting municipalities and other public building owners in achieving their carbon neutrality goals and complying with the EU's Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). The project will develop new methods and tools to assess the solar energy production potential and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of energy storage and energy flexibility solutions in public buildings. This information will guide municipalities in directing investments towards sustainable and long-lasting energy solutions that reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The project strengthens the capacity of SMEs to provide innovative solar energy and energy flexibility solutions for the public sector. Through workshops and market dialogue events, SMEs and public actors can exchange information, co-design energy-efficient operational models, and develop service innovations that meet the specific needs of municipalities and cities. The project will support SMEs in creating new solutions that optimize energy use and expand the adoption of renewable energy. Market dialogues enable public and private actors to jointly plan and develop technologies and service models that improve the energy efficiency and sustainability of public buildings. The AURI2027 project will deliver concrete pilots of solar energy and energy flexibility solutions, allowing municipalities and other public actors to test and evaluate their practical viability and impact on energy consumption and emissions. In parallel, new service concepts will be developed that SMEs can use to offer energy efficiency improvements for public buildings. These pilots will be complemented by operational models and recommendations that guide municipalities and public actors in transitioning towards sustainable energy use and meeting future energy challenges in a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable manner. The project emphasizes broad communication and dissemination to ensure that the results and lessons learned are shared nationwide with municipalities, SMEs, policymakers, and other public actors. Communication will be carried out through multiple channels, including the project’s website, social media, and publications. Project outcomes will be compiled into articles and an electronic publication, which will be distributed widely to stakeholders. This approach ensures that the methods and solutions developed within AURI2027 are accessible and applicable even after the project ends. The project will conclude with a final seminar where key results and achievements will be presented. The seminar will also discuss the application of the project’s methods and solutions, as well as follow-up actions, such as new pilot projects and operational models to further promote the adoption of solar energy and energy flexibility technologies. The AURI2027 project establishes a foundation for a sustainable and carbon-neutral energy system and supports the competitiveness of SMEs in markets that promote energy efficiency and solar energy use. The solutions and methods developed within the project will enhance the capacity of municipalities and public actors to meet EU energy efficiency requirements and create new business opportunities for SMEs.
