Kainuu Vocational College (KAO) and Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK) are launching a significant investment project to develop the expertise and production capacity of the metal industry in the Kainuu economic region. The aim of the project is to respond to the growing demand from industry and to support the competitiveness of the region's business life by utilising new, sustainable operating models. At the heart of the investment project is the introduction of modern, energy- and resource-efficient technology that enables higher-quality and more environmentally friendly metal production. Special attention will be paid to promoting carbon neutrality: new technology and production methods will significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions from processes. In addition, the project supports the transition to energy efficiency and solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that maximize the reuse of materials and energy efficiency in the production chain. As part of the project, learning and development environments will be established that serve both current companies and future professionals in the metal industry. In cooperation with companies, educational organisations and research institutes, an infrastructure will be built that combines innovations in the field, education and the needs of practical working life. This will ensure the availability of skilled labour and promote the region's attractiveness for industrial investments. The project is expected to bring significant economic and environmental benefits to the Kainuu region. It will enable Kainuu to establish its position as a pioneer in the sustainable and responsible metal industry in Finland and internationally.
