"Battery storage potential in North Karelia - AKKUe" is a two-part project, consisting of an investment project and a development project. The investment project will implement three battery storage facilities in public buildings and build a test platform and innovation environment to enable the development of new battery storage technologies and business models. The project investments will provide concrete pilot sites to test and evaluate the performance of battery storage, grid load balancing and energy communities. The test platform will also enable companies, research institutes and energy operators to participate in the development and commercialisation of new battery storage solutions. The development project will use data from investments to analyse the optimisation and commercial potential of battery storage. It will also model how battery storage can influence the investment needs of the electricity grid and energy security. The project will support the green transition in North Karelia and Finland, the competitiveness of SMEs and the development of energy communities. It provides practical solutions and modelling that can be used in the energy sector, municipal decision-making and business development.
