Finland needs to continue investing in public industry-oriented research, development and innovation (RDI) activities. Research, development and innovation activities play a key role in improving the country's competitiveness, and a business sector that professionally commercializes innovations is able to produce high-quality products and services that are competitive on the global market. RDI activities also play role in accelerating economic growth and creating new business opportunities, as well as boosting the productivity and profitability of companies. In addition, societal and global challenges such as climate change, energy efficiency, digitalization and healthcare are all areas that require continuous efforts in research and development. The INNOVATE project is responsible for supporting this challenge. The project is part of the national Innovation and knowledge networks theme, and its actions promote the creation of knowledge-intensive business ecosystems, increase research activities connected to business life, and support business life-oriented renewal of skills and thus the growing business of companies. The theme encourages regional RDI actors - especially research organizations and companies - to cooperate more closely across provincial borders. The goal is to support the emergence of knowledge-intensive, innovation-based business ecosystems and business life-oriented renewal of skills. Wide-ranging cooperation and the transfer of know-how support the introduction of new technology and the utilization of opportunities in companies. The INNOVATE project organizes three funding information sessions and three workshop sessions for RDI operators every year. The purpose of the events is to strengthen the effectiveness of national R&D activities by supporting various projects and facilitating the process of developing and commercializing innovations. In addition, the events act as a catalyst for new project activities and the creation of even more comprehensive partnerships. By strengthening the cooperation of different research projects, many advantages are achieved, such as more efficient utilization of resources, a broader perspective, utilization of synergy benefits, increased effects and networking. The INNOVATE project jointly reports on the effectiveness of RDI activities in accordance with city ecosystem agreements, identifying new RDI actors, encouraging them to proactively commercialize innovations and to utilize EU funding. The project also closely cooperates with the Horizon and Business Finland programs and regional development activities, bringing new funding opportunities to the fore. In the project, a nationwide mapping of RDI operators and infrastructures is carried out, which helps to outline the overall picture of Finland's innovation system and to identify areas where the innovation system can be developed and strengthened. The mapping also provides information on where different operators are located and what areas of expertise and strengths there are in different areas. In connection with the survey, a national operating and service model will be developed to facilitate the comparison and purchase of different innovation services.
