In Kymenlaakso's transition plan, the region's weakness has been identified as insufficient RDI activity and companies' unwillingness and ability to develop. At the same time, the transition plan strongly emphasizes that the replacement of energy peat must be accompanied by research related to emission-free renewable energy, energy storage and energy efficiency. Building a sustainable or green energy system is also part of Finland's green transition. A sustainable energy system for renewable energy means intelligent integration of different sectors and innovative solutions. The theme is also one of the focal points of Kymenlaakso's smart specialization. With the innovative solutions related to energy production, storage, and use developed in the Genesis project, work and business opportunities are created both for companies already found in the area and for companies that are considering locating in the area. As a result of the GENESIS, investments project, a state-of-the-art sustainable energy system RDI infrastructure is created, which creates a solid foundation for expanding and deepening applied research, building international networks and obtaining competitive funding for the Kymenlaakso region while promoting the region's attractiveness in the eyes of students, experts and companies. Several investments in the battery industry, hydrogen economy and solar energy are expected in the Kymenlaakso area in the coming years. The GENESIS project, including investments, ensures excellent research conditions for the entire energy cluster.
