Stones for Circulation - Reuse Reduces the Carbon Footprint of Concrete

In Kymenlaakso's regional transition plan, goals have been set, among other things, to diversify and strengthen the regional economy, raise the level of expertise, support business continuity and business life by strengthening networks and ecosystems, and support the growth and renewal of companies by strengthening business-oriented RDI cooperation and operations. The Stones for Circulation project supports innovative experiments and piloting based on the needs of the business world, as well as R&D cooperation. The project strongly increases cooperation between companies and research organizations, produces new information, and is designed to meet the company needs to maintain their business capabilities in the future. Demolition companies, aggregate suppliers, producers of ready-mixed concrete and manufacturers of cement-free binders are the project's target group. The project's measures promote the operation and business opportunities of the entire value chain of concrete production. The investment part of the project will improve the RDI infrastructure built around Kymenlaakso's concrete and circular economy research, and the development part will utilize the innovation potential it enables. With the help of the results and know-how accumulated during the project, new business opportunities, value chains between companies and jobs will be created for companies in the region. As a long-term result, new companies will also be created in the region. The functionality of the laboratory experiments performed in the project is also tested on an industrial scale, which opens up unprecedented opportunities for improving the quality and effectiveness of applied research. The impressive and well-known R&D activity and environment created as a result of the project's measures will enable the application of competitive money projects in the future, as well as the building of an impressive and high-quality national and international cooperation network, and thereby also the creation of new jobs. The expansion of R&D infrastructure and the development of know-how contribute to the attractiveness of the region from the point of view of companies as well. The project implements the goals of the bio and circular economy focus area of Kymenlaakso's ÄES strategy in terms of promoting the reuse of materials and keeping materials in circulation. Horizontal principles, gender equality and equality are taken into account throughout the project. The project follows Xamk's equality plan. The main theme of the project is sustainable development, all aspects of which are taken into account in the operation of the project.
