The Kainuu region, like many other Finnish regions, faces challenges with an ageing population, youth migration and economic challenges. The role of entrepreneurship has been highlighted as a solution to many of these problems. The "Future Entrepreneurs from Kainuu" project is born out of a desire to support the region's young people and their potential as entrepreneurs, to strengthen Kainuu's economy and sense of community, and to respond to the region's needs with innovative solutions. The economic and social sustainability of the Kainuu region depends heavily on the success of local businesses. Entrepreneurship plays a key role in securing employment and creating sustainable growth in the region. Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK) and the City of Kajaani's educational institutions (Kainuu Vocational College (KAO) and Kajaani Upper Secondary School (KLL)) are a significant factor in the Kainuu region, acting not only as educational institutions but also as promoters of the vitality and development of the region. However, the region's dynamic growth is facing challenges that require swift and innovative solutions. One of the most important challenges is to support and strengthen entrepreneurship and enterprise, which is also at the heart of the objectives of the Kainuu Regional Programme. Entrepreneurship is much more than business; it is key to promoting innovation, employment and social development. Entrepreneurs are at the heart of the region's vitality, bringing new ideas, creating jobs and enriching the local culture and community. It is therefore critical that KAMK, together with KKL, Kainuu Entrepreneurs and other key stakeholders, takes an active role in developing and promoting entrepreneurial culture and student entrepreneurship in Kainuu. KAMK and KLL have a large number of international students who have faced many challenges in self-employment in existing Kainuu companies, e.g. due to language barriers. However, these students need jobs in order to cope economically. This has been reflected in student surveys and a desire to set up their own businesses. Kainuu has a rare Business Kainuu network, which brings together all public entrepreneurial services under one roof. Business Kainuu is the channel through which all business services, experts and know-how in the Kainuu region can be found. A single point of contact provides services for all stages of a company's life cycle. However, further efforts are still needed at the educational institution level to increase the potential of entrepreneurship as an option. This project is not just an investment in individual entrepreneurs or companies, but an investment in the future of Kainuu, its people and its position in the Finnish economic and cultural scene.
