Fiber-laboratory extension project

The project involves the construction of a new building, a research laboratory with an area of 1459 sq m for Xamk's use. The building will be implemented as an extension of the existing fiber laboratory, so that the existing Fiber Laboratory and the expansion part built by the project form one functional entity. The project is implemented by the city of Savonlinna and rents the premises for use by Xamk in their entirety. With the funding, Xamk will acquire research equipment for use in industrial research and business cooperation between 2023 and 2026, the implementation of which requires the expansion of the Fiber Laboratory's pilot hall, analysis laboratory, and pressure-rated facilities for biomass cooking and processing techniques. The total cost estimate of the project is around 6.6 M€ and the project is to be completed by the end of 2026. The goal of the project is to develop the conditions for the R&D activities of Xamk Kuitulaboratorio, located in Savonlinna's technology park, especially for the development of new solutions, products and processes with high added value in forest bioeconomy. The goal of the practice is to realize a research facility with an area of 1459 k-m2 for use by Xamk. The investment project plan is attached to the project application. The facility investment includes: - In the expansion of the pilot hall, 450 k-m2, a concrete process equipment level will be implemented in the pilot hall, which enables the placement of a process research environment weighing 60 t in the pilot research hall. In addition, the level is made for a pressure cooker - Pressure equipment rooms for 2 biomass testers - Pressure equipment room for ATEX-Winkworth reactor 60 m2 - Laboratory and control rooms - Expert workspace (attached room program and layout) The expansion part of the building and the new research equipment infrastructure will be seamlessly integrated into the already existing whole, both in terms of the building, equipment, personnel and research activities. The scope of the project has grown as the planning progressed. The building control authority has required the construction of a civil defense shelter and the users have requested the construction of an outdoor storage facility. The project plan states that the floor area is 1415 m2, and after the changes, the new floor area of the extension is 1459 sq m.
