The aim of the project is to help individuals find employment by enhancing their skills in the changed operating environment, as the use of energy peat production has practically been abandoned in South and Central Ostrobothnia. The goal is to prevent people from being marginalized while new and skilled workforce is needed for tasks such as the harvesting of forests in peat-replacing renewable energy systems and the after-use of peat production areas. In this way, the vitality of the regions is maintained in accordance with the guidelines of the JTF (Just Transition Fund) system. The project's measures involve developing and piloting sustainable land use and forestry education and training at both the administrative and employee levels. This will activate peat industry workers at risk of exclusion to train for new natural resource-related tasks in South and Central Ostrobothnia. The project implements administrative and employee-level education and training in sustainable land use and forestry education within actual learner-centered work packages, applying diverse learning methods, including digital learning environments, in line with the principles of lifelong learning. The educational pilots produced by the project will be evaluated and will continue to exist after the project. Through these pilots, approximately 70 individuals involved in peat production and its interfaces will be activated to increase their skills and improve their employment prospects in natural resource-related roles in South and Central Ostrobothnia. The output indicators will follow the goal-oriented metrics and horizontal objectives of the EURA2021 system. Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences coordinates the project and implements it in collaboration with Seinäjoki Joint Municipal Authority for Education Sedu and the Federation of Education in Central Ostrobothnia Kpedu from March 1, 2024, to June 30, 2026. The total budget is about €550,000 funded by JTF programme and the project participants.
