Boosting Regulation and Sustainability Competence for Health and Wellness Sector

Boosting Regulation and Sustainability Competence for Health and Wellness Sector is a development project to create multiple work-life oriented competencies for the health and wellness sector. The project focuses on the regulation of health technology and the pharmaceutical sector. The project also aims at increasing the ability of the sector to produce quality products responsibly. One part of the project is to develop a regulation package for the new engineer education (DI) of the University of Eastern Finland (technical physics and sustainable materials and products). The educational part of the project also touches on the special nature of gene therapy products and vaccinations, as well as the creation of an educational pathway towards employment in the pharmaceutical industry. The objective is to bring together both the product developers and the clients who produce user experiences. The aim of the project is to boost regulation and sustainability competence for health and wellness sector, to increase attractiveness of the sector and to obtain a highly skilled workforce in the region. Participants are provided information about the field as an employer and the opportunity to develop their skills by utilizing both new and existing education in the field. In addition, participants are offered tailored guidance services and peer support (incl. mentoring). The aim is to find missing competence pieces and to complement the participants’ expertise through education and educational pathways. This flexible continuous learning palette will be designed and implemented in cooperation with actors in the sector by producing educational and recruiting materials as well as social media campaigns. New digital tools and learning environments are also piloted. The education aims at stepping from words to actions and from standards to practice. The education always includes elements that will increase well-being at work and actions to strengthen networking. As a result of the project, the health and wellness sectors will become more attractive as places of employment. In the future, the sectors’ actors have more versatile and interesting training and recruiting materials in their use. Companies of the sector and their stakeholders can utilize educational pathways and guidance services for continuous learning in developing their employees’ competence. Know-how in sustainability and regulation creates a competitive advantage for companies and improves their operating facilities and promotes discussion on questions of ethics in the sector. The participants’ project work and the use of sparring services develop companies’ and organisations’ practices and work life cooperation. Co-creation and peer learning will increase, new networks will be developed, and already existing networks will be strengthened. Finally, well-being at work is improved through learning new things, recognizing sustainable development opportunities, and chances for small everyday green actions.
