We can do it! With our own skills for working life

The ways of doing work are changing and paths to employment are becoming more and more diverse. Self-employment as an entrepreneur or, for example, through various entrepreneurship services is one option, but subsistence can consist of paid employment, entrepreneurship and many ways of self-employment. It may also involve reconciliation of different benefits. Working life requires even now, but especially in the future, even stronger entrepreneurial skills, entrepreneurial attitude, ability to network and creative ways to find different employment solutions. The target group of the educational institutions involved in the project network includes students who require special support as well as those who do not need special support. However, the underlying need is common to all: strengthening students' entrepreneurial skills so that students graduating in the next few years have a better capacity for self-employment and a broader understanding of entrepreneurship. Solutions to this need are sought by developing learning environments that support entrepreneurship and by supporting and guiding students in dreams and issues related to entrepreneurship and self-employment. Another key theme of the project is to strengthen the skills and networks of entrepreneurs with disabilities or chronic diseases. The aim is to create opportunities for success and growth through competence development and networking, as well as to strengthen peer-to-peer activities. From the perspective of the Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities (Invalidiliitto), the project promotes the participation of people with disabilities. According to the Entrepreneurship and Support for People with Disabilities study (2017), self-employment and entrepreneurship is a good option, especially for those receiving disability pension benefits. At present, public services supporting entrepreneurship are not yet able to adequately support people with disabilities in the process of self-employment. However, the measures proposed in the study have not progressed. This is a precondition for people who need special support to be able to get a job. The development of diverse work communities will be supported through the training and information content provided in the project.
