Social enterprises and other social economy actors produce innovations that tackle ecological issues and develop circular economy, vitality of regions and social and healthcare services while also react to the changes of the labour market. These innovations are a vital part of our society. According to the Strategy for Social Enterprises, social enterprises have needs that are not recognised in common business strategies, policy papers, business support services or funding systems. Therefore there is a need for actions that improve the business capacities and framework conditions of social enterprises, while also raise awareness of the operating model and improve its visibility. The coordination project will co-operate with the Centre of Expertise for Social Enterprises on a structural level and eventually the coordination project will continue the work of the Centre in implementing the Strategy for Social Enterprises. The task of the coordination project is to gather together all actors and projects working among social businesses and social economy in order to build a coherent and strong network that can coordinate and facilitate data, statistics, knowledge, skills, results and action. The main goal is to strengthen regional ecosystems of social economy, that include social enterprises and other social economy actors like educational establishments, non-governmental organisations, investors and public officials. This will enable creation of new social innovations and operating models as well as their spreading. The goals of the project are: 1) Increasing the number of social enterprises and their business and impact-related competences 2) Supporting the creation of social innovations 3) Strengthening the evaluation and impact assessment skills 4) Supporting local and regional social economy actors and their network 5) Boosting the employment of people who are partially incapacitated or otherwise disadvantaged in the labour market 6) Strengthening the network of national and international actors and forwarding data between them, especially EU-data 7) Production and accumulation of data and statistics regarding social economy 8) Raising awareness of the social enterprise model and improve its visibility. With the coordination project business capacities of entrepreneurs will increase, new social enterprises and business activities will be born, as well as new social innovations that spread also in an international network. Additionally the project will produce the first ever Finnish handbook of development of social innovation and its securing, scaling and funding. Thanks to this project, the capacities of enterprises, business advisors and other employment and social economy actors will increase. There will also be a national implemented plan for the EU Social Economy Action Plan. The project gathers knowledge, data and best practice -models regarding the employment of people who are partially incapacitated or otherwise disadvantaged in the labour market and therefore the project will create internationally comparable statistics about social entrepreneurship in Finland while also creating a systematic practice model to gather knowledge and data. This will allow the policy makers to make informed decisions and it will furthermore develop social economy. While the capacities of social enterprises will increase and well-functioning operating models spread even further, work will become more accessible for people who are partially incapacitated and employment rates will become higher. The project will also respond to the current issue of employee allocation in Finland, where the education and skills of unemployed persons do not correspond with the needs of employment sectors with labour shortage.
