Regional development of rehabilitative work activities

Changes in working life, a decline in the availability of labour and changes in the way services are organised have created a logical starting point for developing the content of rehabilitative work activities in the North Karelia region. As a result of these changes, the North Karelia wellbeing services county Siun Sote, in cooperation with Karelia University of Applied Sciences, is applying for a four-year project for the regional development of rehabilitative work activities. The project will create a new way of implementing rehabilitative work activities in the North Karelia wellbeing services county that meets the needs of clients and working life. The project’s target group is clients of rehabilitative work activities (working-age people), rehabilitative work activities personnel in the North Karelia wellbeing services county and social and health care sector students at Karelia University of Applied Sciences. Indirect target groups include municipal employment services, cooperation networks such as work ability support teams, mental health and substance abuse services, parties offering work activity places in municipalities and organisations, Karelia University of Applied Sciences teachers and guidance counsellors, and continuous learning services. New client-oriented operating models and contents, such as digital and mobile services, will be tested in addition to rehabilitative work activities workshop activities during the development of the rehabilitative work activities service. Attention will also be given to the participation of clients in the development of activities. A client panel, experts by experience and Karelia's expertise will be used to assist in this. An instrument for assessing work ability and functional capacity will be piloted and introduced over the course of the project. The project will be implemented as a group project between the North Karelia wellbeing services county and Karelia University of Applied Sciences. Siun Sote wellbeing services county and Karelia University of Applied Sciences are strategic partners who wish to jointly develop the competence of social welfare and health care personnel in the region. In particular, the aim is to respond to the increasingly accelerating challenges in the availability of labour and to ensure a basic level of competence for all. The joint implementation of the project will result in greater impact as the project's activities will affect the entire region through Siun Sote. Instead of the current one-off project-based cooperation model between working life and the educational institution, the aim is to achieve systematic cooperation in the engagement of students to working life and, in particular, in areas where there is a shortage of labour. Karelia’s strength lies in is digital competence and strengthening the means of inclusion
