A shortage of professional workers is acute in the field of work with disabled people. The future for the workforce in the field is increasingly challenging in the light of demographic trends, retirement, and educational projections. The field is also challenged by a high turnover of workers and low attractiveness of the studies in the field. The diversity of the staff in the work with disabled people has already footing in Uusimaa. The development of disability services should be examined from the perspective of the new normal. There is need for a new way of management, different measures and structures for work communities with language challenges, a part of staff that has just moved to the country and an increasing number of employees who are not aiming for a long-term career with the same employer. The awareness of the work with disabled people and the education and job opportunities in the field increases already from the early stages on. The number of students increases, and availability of employees improves in the field. Management can support the strengths of employees and use the extended community structures to deliver the services and to engage employees. The management targets the existing resources so that a person with a disability receives a quality service. The strengths of future employees of work with disabled people are identified during their studies, allowing for a more targeted placement in the working life and an easier transition from studies to work. Closer cooperation between the learning paths and the working life increases the readiness and commitment of the new workers in the field. The diversity of working communities is seen as an asset for the community. The strengths and diversity of the community are used in daily actions.
