Job Paths to Savonlinna

The Savonlinna region is an area of structural unemployment, and public employment services have not been able to solve this. The long-term unemployed experience discrimination because of their age, length of unemployment or other challenges. However, the employment of the unemployed does not depend solely on the jobseekers themselves, but also on the receptiveness of the work community and on the employers' skills and resources related to recruitment, employment, and orientation. On the other hand, the availability of skilled labor is an identified problem that acts as an obstacle to the growth of companies and business development. Often there would be labor available that should be made to meet the employer's needs. The “Job Paths to Savonlinna” project aims to find solutions to these challenges in the Savonlinna area. Companies' involvement is needed to jointly develop ways and solutions to alleviate the region's worsening labor shortage and employment mismatch and to make employers interested in employing job seekers that are usually underrepresented in the working life (e.g. employees with precise work capabilities). The “Job Paths to Savonlinna” aims to bring companies, job seekers, educational institutions and different organizations offering employment and labour services together to find solutions to these problems. Therefore, the project is carried out by Savonlinna Development Service Ltd., Samiedu Vocational College and the employment services of the City of Savonlinna. The project aims to: 1. promote the employment of the unemployed and persons outside the working life 2. facilitate the availability of skilled labor in companies, which in turn promotes the growth of companies and business development, creating new employment opportunities 3. develop practical solutions to the problem of employment mismatch in the Savonlinna area. Target groups of the project are unemployed job seekers, employers, and micro and small businesses. Part of the activities are targeted to companies, who are planning to make their first recruitment. Such companies have the biggest potential for recruiting in the Savonlinna area, but their need to take this step needs the most support. The employment services of the City of Savonlinna are responsible for considering unemployed job seekers's viewpoint in the development work and for their participation in the project's activities. The participation of employer companies and recognition of their point of view is ensured through the participation of the project's lead partner, Savonlinna Development Services. It works with businesses and cooperates closely with the Business Services of the City of Savonlinna. Participation of Samiedu Vocational College as an educational organization ensures the quality and effectiveness of the training services developed and implemented with the help of the project. Actions carried out in the project are divided in the following work packages: - WP1: Job paths for persons in the most challenging labor market position - WP2: Development and support of employers' recruitment and orientation skills - WP3: Supporting work communities towards diversity. As a result of the "Job Paths to Savonlinna" project, the employment of job seekers in the Savonlinna region will be enhanced and the availability of labor will improve for employer companies. In particular, the employment of those capable of precise work is progressing. New types of solutions (operating models, service packages and training) are being piloted and introduced to ease the problem of employment mismatch in the Savonlinna area for the benefit of both jobseekers and employers. More and more companies are modifying and subdividing work tasks to obtain labor. The solutions promote equality and prevent discrimination. Work communities are becoming more diverse. With the increased recruitment and orientation skills, companies operating in Savonlinna are seen as competent and attractive employers, and the entire Savonlinna region becomes a more attractive area for employment. The operation of Savonlinna's employment ecosystem is crystallized and the cooperation between operators works smoothly. Employers in need of labor can easily find the right service paths to obtain labor.
