AV UP – New Skills for the AV Industry – aims to strengthen the audiovisual sector's skills, capacity and operating environment to meet the growth needs of national and international productions, thus ensuring growth and competitiveness in both domestic and international markets. The audiovisual sector is characterised by strong seasonality, labour shortages, rapid development, a fragmented field of activity and relatively little cooperation between educational institutions and employers. The sector has great potential for growth, especially in international productions, but its structures, especially in terms of skills and coordination, are a brake or even an obstacle to growth. The operating environment is also very different in different parts of Finland. The AV UP project aims to develop foresight, training, funding models and cooperation between educational institutions and employers to secure the conditions for growth. The project will enable better national cooperation between educational institutions to identify needs and develop education in the sector. The project will engage educational institutions and employers to work together to create an effective and forward-looking national education service model. The education service model will enable people who are unemployed or threatened with unemployment to find employment through additional training. The project pilots will also help to identify the right kind of continuing training for people in employment who need training to secure their future employment. The education service model will also address the skills and labour needs of the sector. The target groups of the project are people working in the AV field whose skills need updating and development, and enterprises in the field who have labour and skills needs. The target group may also include people moving into the AV sector. Five work packages will be implemented: 1) A snapshot of structures, resources and skills needs in the audiovisual sector 2) A model for systematically anticipating changes in the operating environment and skills needs of the audiovisual sector 3) A model for the development of skills in the AV sector and pilot training experiments on micro credentials 4) Funding solutions for education models to support the growth of the AV sector 5) An approach to support knowledge and capacity in the AV sector and cooperation between key actors. The key outcome of the project is a sustainable operating model to support the skills and capacity of the audiovisual sector, engaging key actors – educational institutions, companies and relevant stakeholders – nationwide. The result will be a more accurate snapshot of the structures, resources and skills needs of the AV sector, an approach for systematically anticipating changes in the operating environment and skills needs, an education service model for AV sector including 28 micro credentials and a study of funding solutions for education models that support the growth of the AV sector. The project will be implemented by a nationwide network of institutions providing education and training in the field of AV education at vocational and higher education levels. It is coordinated by Tampere University of Applied Sciences and also involves Tampere Vocational College Tredu, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Turku Vocational Institute, Arcada University of Applied Sciences, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and Omnia. In addition, the project network includes a wide range of local and national stakeholders and companies, which means that Northern Finland is also affected by the project. The project contributes to the sustainable development of the local business fabric. It also creates the conditions for equal opportunities. The project aims to break down gender bias in the audiovisual sector, as well as pre-determined and discriminatory gender structures.
