GoodAI—Human Wellbeing by Ethical AI

The purpose of this project is to support the well-being of companies in an ethically sustainable way when they use or consider the adoption of artificial intelligence solutions. The goal is to develop ethically sustainable practices for the adoption of AI that support employee well-being, the competitiveness of the employee and the company, and the broader ethics and sustainability of AI development. The project addresses challenges identified in previous projects and research, such as the shortage of technology experts in the Southwest Finland region, challenges posed by new technologies for employee well-being, and ethical issues related to the use of AI. Additionally, the project prepares especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to meet the requirements of upcoming legislation (e.g., the EU AI act and related regulation). The first phase of the project is to determine what types of AI solutions companies in the region are using or considering adopting and why. This includes a study that examines the key benefits and challenges of AI use and how AI solutions affect employee well-being. In the second phase, a model and self-assessment tool are developed to help companies use AI solutions responsibly. The model helps companies identify and avoid ethical risks associated with the use of AI solutions. To support the model, practical tools and methods are developed and collected to help companies assess the impact of AI solutions on employees, the work environment, and society as a whole. A key tool to be developed is the Self-assessment of sustainable AI use and the company's maturity level description with development proposals. The third phase of the project is to evaluate the impact of the developed practices on the well-being and business of the pilot companies during the project. This includes collecting and analyzing data on how the developed practices have affected employee well-being, productivity, and business profitability. This helps ensure that the developed practices are sustainable and support business in the long term. Based on this, the model and tools are further developed iteratively. The goal during the project is to spread information and experiences of the developed practices and results to a wider audience. One key way to create impact in the project is by establishing a network - or supporting exsisting one - that promotes responsible and sustainable use of artificial intelligence in businesses. The network will continue to exist even after the project is completed. The network enables collaboration and knowledge exchange between different companies, researchers, and experts, which helps to promote responsible AI use more widely. The network's goal is also to continue the development of the practices and tools created and promote their use in companies in the area. In addition, impact will be promoted by publishing results, developed guidelines, and tools provided by project. In summary, this project aims to promote responsible use of AI in companies in the area and support the well-being of employees. The project includes developing new practices for applying AI in a human-centered way, testing the developed practices in practice, and spreading them to a wider audience. The adoption of project outcomes is promoted by creating a permanent network that promotes responsible AI use in the area in the long term. An active, participant-driven network supports the promotion of AI use in the area in a way that considers business sustainability, employee well-being, and social sustainability even after the project is completed.
