The problems in finding skilled labor have become more common in several industries in the region of Soutwest Finland. Companies are no longer able to meet their workforce needs solely with Finnish or Swedish speakers in the area, so they should be encouraged to hire workers with foreign backgrounds, who are already in Finland or in the process of moving here. The goal of the project is to secure the vitality and growth of companies by promoting their readiness to recruit international workers. Through the project, a collaborative network in Southwest Finland will be able to better serve companies in situations of labor shortage and assist employers in recruiting workers with foreign backgrounds. The project will identify barriers related to the recruitment of foreign labor and overcome them by advising, coaching, and guiding companies to the right services. The project's activities will improve the utilization of regional and national services related to workforce recruitment and business development. The primary target group of this project is small and medium-sized enterprises (including public employers, organizations, and foundations) in Southwest Finalnd. The secondary target group consists of international students and their spouses in the region, who will be matched with local employers. Project advisors will proactively seek out companies in need of labor and assist them in using various services related to recruiting and training workers with foreign backgrounds. The project will organize industry-specific events for both businesses and the local network of actors. At the same time, cooperation among entities interfacing with businesses in Turku region will be enhanced, and successful experiences within the business network will be disseminated. Additionally, collaboration will be carried out throughout Southwest Finland with other regional projects. The project will also survey companies' recruitment potential and investigate barriers and challenges to recruitment through surveys and interviews. Companies will be offered the opportunity to participate in training to support their expertise in recruiting and integrating foreign workers into their teams and organizations. Furthermore, counseling and coaching will be developed for international students and their spouses to help them orient themselves to Finnish society and the Finnish labor market from the early stages of their studies.
