APPI - Adult Basic Skills Badge Piloting in adult education colleges

The objectives of the APPI - Adult Basic Skills Badge Piloting in adult education colleges project are: 1) To respond to the skills needs arising from changes in working life and to raise the level of skills by developing competence-based education in the field of liberal adult education. 2) To support the participation of vulnerable and underrepresented groups in continuous learning through the strengthening of basic skills and increased self-confidence and experiences of success. 3) To positively influence the solution of the mismatch problem by developing a wide national and local skills network cooperation and to improve the accessibility of education by forming customer guidance paths with local skills networks to reach target groups with weak basic skills and low education levels. 4) To create educational material for competence-based education for selected KAPOS badges and to ensure continuity in the organization of badge education in folk high schools after the project. The objectives set for the project are responded to with the following work packages and pilots: WORK PACKAGE 1. Strengthening the competence of the teaching staff of folk high schools in relation to badge education and sharing good practices. WORK PACKAGE 2. Developing seeking activities in local skills networks and forming customer guidance paths. WORK PACKAGE 3. Developing national basic skills education packages through teaching content, artificial intelligence badge and the creation of a common operating model for folk high schools, and ensuring the accessibility and clarity of the material. WORK PACKAGE 4. Piloting the introduction of selected KAPOS badges. Pilot 1. Independent performance on the competence path. Pilot 2. Guided performance on the competence path. Pilot 3. Recognition of prior learning on the competence path. The main target group of the project are vulnerable individuals who are underrepresented in education and have a weak educational background. The target group includes young people and others in a weak labor market position, such as long-term unemployed, immigrants, aging people, and young people who are between work and education and those in work who have weak basic skills and whose staying in working life is desired to be supported. In addition to the above, the target group includes the teaching staff of folk high schools, whose competence related to the organization of badge education is strengthened by the project. The project has a particular impact on the development of the conditions for continuous learning of vulnerable individuals and those with a low educational background by strengthening the self-confidence and basic skills of the target group and giving experiences of success from completing badges. The project contributes positively to the solution of the mismatch problem by developing a wide national and local skills network cooperation and by including organizations etc. working with the target groups in the network. Indirectly, the employment of the target group is supported by improved basic skills. The project is implemented by Peräpohjolan Kansanopiston Kannatusyhdistys ry, Alkio-opiston Kannatusyhdistys ry, Kainuun Opisto Oy, Kirkkopalvelut ry / STEP-koulutus, Pohjois-Savon Kansanopistoseura ry and Rovalan Setlementti ry/Rovala-Opisto. To reach the national folk high school network, the project cooperates with Suomen Kansanopistoyhdistys. Locally, the project implementers cooperate with local partners to reach the target group with weak basic skills. Partners include organizations, TE services and employment areas as well as municipalities, Skills Centers and other adult guiding bodies, social and health care actors, parishes and workplaces.
