South Ostrobothnia's business sector will need skilled workers more and more in the coming years as the demographic structure ages and at the same time young people in the region migrate towards the centre of the region or, in the worst case, out of the region. Population migration will reduce labour supply in peripheral areas and put companies in a difficult position in terms of labour supply. The project is developing and piloting "Tasting Pathways of vocational skills for migrants". These tasting pathways will include a new language-guided introduction to the sectoral work culture, a hands-on introduction to the practical work in the sector, as well as an introduction to the job opportunities in companies in the sectors. The aim of the project is to provide immigrants with a concrete way of getting to know the educational and employment opportunities in the region of South Ostrobothnia, so that they have a realistic idea of what the region has to offer. This will contribute to the region's retention potential and create better chances of establishing roots in the region. The project simultaneously addresses the challenges of immigrant integration, the skills shortage in businesses and the declining population in the region, especially in the peripheral areas. The project's measures will be targeted at the crafts and technology sectors. The tasting pathways will be unique in terms of their concreteness and the chain of actors involved, and will be as supportive as possible of the target group. Tasting pathways concretise the link between education and work and bring the structure of Finnish education and industry to the attention of immigrants in a new way. Tasting pathways will be carried out in cooperation between the The Finnish Institute for Enterprise Management and the South Ostrobothnia Folk High School, drawing on the expertise of both.
