Together We Achieve 2 - Support, Guidance, and Inclusion

In Finland, an estimated 930,000 people live under the risk of poverty and social exclusion. This number has increased due to cuts made to social security. Poverty has deepened, unemployment has grown, and the need for food aid has increased. Specifically, cuts to housing support have increased evictions and homelessness. Cuts to social security have increased the need for last-resort income support, which is also reflected in the increased number of clients in the diaconal work of parishes. Project Objectives 1. During the project, 125,000 payment cards (each worth 40 €) will be distributed to people in urgent need. 2. The project aims to reach 200,000 people in urgent need. 3. At least 95% of all individuals who receive a payment card will participate in the ancillary activities. 4. People in need will feel seen, heard, and helped in their urgent situation. 5. The sense of self-sufficiency among people in need will be strengthened as they participate in the ancillary activities and receive a payment card. 6. Awareness and understanding of the social support and services they are entitled to will increase among the people in need who participate in the project, and they will be supported in accessing these services. 7. Parish diaconal workers will benefit from the materials, up-to-date information, and operational models produced by the project to improve the situation of those seeking help through the ancillary activities. In parishes, ancillary activities are largely centered around diaconal receptions, either at the diaconate office, at home, or at another agreed location, where the person in need is allocated time for unhurried meeting. The ancillary activities include a comprehensive assessment of the help-seeker's situation, conversational support, consideration of the solution options, and guiding them to other forms of assistance, where igniting hope in the help-seeker is a crucial element. In addition to the comprehensive assessment, recipients receive conversational support, assistance in considering solution options, and service guidance to societal, parish, and local association-provided aid, such as community meals, and wellness groups. The project will achieve the following immediate results 1. Distribution of 125,000 payment cards (worth 40 € each) to people in urgent need of assistance. 2. Reaching 200,000 people in acute need of help. 3. Having 95 % of all payment card recipients participate in ancillary activities. 4. Ensuring that those seeking help feel welcomed, heard, and assisted in their urgent needs. 5. Strengthening the sense of self-sufficiency for those who sought help through their involvement in ancillary activities and receivement of the payment card. 6. Increase of the awareness and understanding of societal support measures and services among those seeking help, and they are supported in achieving them. 7. Providing congregational social workers with materials, up-to-date information, and action models produced by the project to improve the situations of aid recipients. The project's long-term impacts 1. People who have sought help will feel comprehensively met, which creates hope and empowers them to fare better in the future, also independently. 2. The sense of self-sufficiency of those seeking help is strengthened through their participation in ancillary activities. Personal guidance provides alternative progress options, bringing solutions to "stuck" life situations and improving life management. 3. Increased awareness and understanding of society's support measures and services among those seeking help promotes their financial well-being and strengthens their inclusion in society. 4. Parish diaconal workers will receive tools to facilitate their work, allowing them to better guide people in need to the support and assistance that meets their needs. 5. People's awareness of the role and importance of churches in helping people in need increases and their safety net is strengthened.
