Fab Lab – Making Competence Visible project will develop the Fab Lab of BusinessOulu employment services as a whole into a versatile and flexible place for developing skills, where you can develop concrete skills and evidence to promote job attachment. One of the strategic goals of BusinessOulu employment services is to develop the skills of job seekers to meet the needs of the labor market. To achieve this goal, voluntary services that meet the needs of customers are needed in addition to statutory services. The North Ostrobothnia regional program also emphasizes diversifying skills levels and enabling continuous learning so that job seekers' skills meet the needs of working life. BusinessAsema's Fab Lab (short for "fabrication laboratory") is a place for digital manufacturing, where city residents can use various tools and technologies to create prototypes and products. Fab Labs provide access to equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC milling machines and other digital manufacturing tools. Fab Labs also provide a space for experimentation and innovation. Fab Lab activities are related to the development and utilization of new technologies, automation and robotics. Fab Lab activities are closely linked to the development of individual skills and the productivity and growth opportunities of companies. The target group of the project is unemployed job seekers in the Oulu employment area. The target group of the project is especially young people under 30 who are not working and the long-term unemployed, for whom the project activities provide current skills to support their job search. For young people, this may be, for example, an interest in the field, developing skills and demonstrating skills. People for whom learning digital manufacturing and implementing projects can serve as an enabler for self-employment and running a business can also participate in the project. The project activities are divided into three work packages: Work Package 1: Bringing studification and STEAM into the BusinessAsema Fab Lab The work package focuses on expanding the learning environment descriptions for studification to Fab Lab, developing studification processes and cooperation with educational institutions. The integration of STEAM activities into work experiments and possibly also into other Fab Lab activities in cooperation with experts will also be developed. Work package 2: Developing job seekers' skills in the Fab Lab environment The work package focuses on developing and implementing a flexible work experience model. This includes the implementation of studification and cooperation with companies regarding the creation of portfolios and project work for job seekers. Workshops will be held where job seekers can develop digital manufacturing skills that can be used in the work experience. Work package 3: Marketing and communication of project activities The project communicates about employment-promoting services and the opportunities offered by Fab Lab, as well as the development of operations. Communication is targeted at both job seekers and employers. As a result of the Fab Lab – Making Competence Visible project, unemployed job seekers who participated in the project have been furthered into work or education. All those who participated in the flexible work experience have built their own project portfolio to verify their competence and received a certificate of competence from the studification. The Fab Lab environment has an operating model, where flexible work experience and workshops are a smooth part of the Fab Lab's basic operations. Fab Lab aims to act as an environment that supports the development of the skills of unemployed job seekers, where unemployed job seekers can develop their own projects and project skills. As a result of the project, studification is a natural part of the Fab Lab's basic operations. With studification, unemployed job seekers can verify their acquired skills in the Fab Lab even better both in job searches and in possible studies. The work done on developing studification has strengthened cooperation with educational institutions. As a result of the project, BusinessAsema's Fab Lab is a stronger part of the STEAM in Oulu network and the practices based on STEAM activities have brought new openings to the Fab Lab's basic operations.
