Improvement of the public outdoor space ‘Time path: Modernization of Aizpute Square" is planned in Aizpute city, which is the largest and oldest small town in Liepaja surroundings. Atmodas Street 15A is located in Aizpute public outdoor space, which can be considered the central square of the city. The project's solutions are aimed at modernising Aizpute's central square, without losing connection with the historical aura, creating a sustainable concept of the square, where historical and contemporary features come together. The main objective of the square improvement project is to develop the town square as a place of cognition and recreation, creating and teaching belonging to the city, municipality, state. The square is located in the very centre of the city, surrounded by the Aizpute Art School, the Aizpute Health and Social Care Centre, the interdisciplinary art and residence centre "Serde", opposite the Aizpute Tourism Information Centre, the Aizpute city administration building. To achieve the goal, a balance is found between the preservation of historical evidence and the introduction of innovative solutions. In Soviet times, a monument dedicated to the image of Lenin was located in the square, which was dismantled in the early 1990s. At the moment, when the monument is no longer physically located in the central square of Aizpute, the main structures of the monument have been preserved, which have hindered the further development of the visual and contemporary image of the square. The improvement works of the square include dismantling the monumental terrace, supporting walls and symmetrical sharpening, which is aimed at the former location of the Lenin monument, reducing the historically preserved, misleading burden on the functional meaning and emotional attraction of the square. In the part of the square located near Atmodas Street, it is planned to rebuild the pedestrian path, move the existing bus stop closer to the art school to ensure more convenient and safe access. The relocation and renovation works of the bus stop in the amount of EUR 7940.36 will be covered as extra-project costs from the financial resources of the municipality. The works also include measures to improve the accessibility of the environment, as well as improvement of the site by installing benches and lighting to ensure the functionality of the site also during the dark hours of the day, creating appropriate greenery, as well as highlighting the Kolmordena memorial plaque of Aizpute Commonwealth town. Aizpute is a small town, where historical buildings play an important role in creating its image. The historical centre of Aizpute is an urban construction monument of national importance with state defense No. 7437, existing construction, -the scale, layout and other details of houses, city streets are an important accent in the cultural and historical landscape. Time is a variable, dynamic and continuous process, as a result of which part of the original Aizpute historical building has partially or completely disappeared, therefore, within the framework of the project, it is planned to create a balance between the preservation of historical testimonies and the implementation of modern innovative solutions, updating the functionality of the square and without losing the identity, character and belonging of the site. It is planned to bring the historical identity of the place to life by placing the 19th century in the central square. The project is planned to be implemented within 11 months from the conclusion of the financing agreement.
