Increasing the technical collateral and capacity of the structural units of Directorate General Fire Safety and Civil Protection and preparing the population to respond to forest fires

The project is aiming the improvement of the capacity to prevent and respond to forest fires by creating and developing a methodological framework for preparing the population of the Republic of Bulgaria to protect and respond to forest fires, as well as by providing appropriate technical means and equipment for fighting forest fires. Expected results of the project implementation are: - Delivered 385 pcs. specialized vehicles for fire-fighting and operational activities, 67 pcs. mobile systems for extinguishing forest fires, 6000 pcs. PPE, 1500 pcs. air-breathing apparatus, 28 pcs. compressor installations and 23 pcs. stands, 11 000 pcs. hoses and 450 pcs. turbojets, 6 pcs. water tanks for helicopter firefighting; - Equipped 6 centers for preparing the population for actions in case of forest fires in the city of Vratsa (Northwest Planning Region), Gergini village, Gabrovo district (North Central Planning Region), the town of Shumen (Northeast Planning Region), the city of Burgas (Southeast Planning Region), the village of Boshulya, district Pazardzhik (South Central Planning Region) and the city of Sofia (Southwest Planning Region); - Prepared 26 860 people from the region in transition and less developed regions for forest fire prevention and response through theoretical and practical trainings; - Developed a comprehensive model for increasing the capacity at the national level to prevent and respond to forest fires, by studying the readiness of the population, analyzing the results of the conducted trainings and adapting the information campaigns according to needs.
