With the entry into force of Directive (EU) 2020/2184, on the quality of water intended for human consumption and transposed into Bulgarian legislation as an amendment to Ordinance No. 9/2001 on the quality of water intended for drinking and domestic purposes, there is a need to development and implementation (testing, validation/verification) of modern analytical methods for the study of pollutants. The permissible values of some parameters in Table B "Chemical indicators" have been revised. A deadline for compliance with the maximum values for the new pollutants has been set no later than 12.01.2026. The watch list of substances and compounds of concern in relation to water for human consumption is drawn up based on the EC Implementing Decision of 19.01.2022. The first list was adopted, including beta-estradiol and nonylphenol for monitoring. Under the Directive, the EC adopts implementing acts to draw up and update a watch list that covers substances or compounds of health concern, such as pharmaceuticals, endocrine-disrupting compounds and plastic microparticles. Member States shall introduce requirements to control the potential presence of the substances or compounds included in the watch list at relevant points in the supply chain of water intended for human consumption. In order to ensure that the above requirements are met by the water supply companies and that safe drinking water is supplied to the consumer, each Member State must be able to carry out the analysis of control samples of drinking water taken during the conduct of the authorities of the State Health control control monitoring. The present project proposal aims to provide the necessary technical support to the bodies of the DZK for control over the implementation of the changed indicators introduced by the Directive, on which the drinking waters.
