In the Air Quality Improvement Program 2021-2027 of the Municipality of Burgas, the analysis of the presented data on the annual emissions of PM10 in ambient air by major groups of sources in the Municipality of Burgas as of 2019 shows that for the territory of the municipality the combustion of solid fuels and wood in domestic heating is a major source of fine particulate matter (PM10) with a share of 50%. The total annual emissions from the domestic sector in Burgas Municipality as of 2019 are estimated at 424t of PM10. As a result of the burning of wood and coal for domestic heating only in the city of Burgas are emitted 376t of PM10. The settlement network of the municipality includes 11 more settlements, which during the heating season generate a total of 48t of PM10. The program for the improvement of the air quality in the Municipality of Burgas for 2021-2027 clearly demonstrates that the expansion of the territorial scope of the project is imperative, given the origin of the pollution, dispersion modeling for 2019, the analyzes and complex assessment made in the framework of the preparation of the Program. At present, the Municipality of Burgas is implementing the project № BG16M1OP002-5.003-0003, procedure BG16M1OP002-5.003, OP Environment. The project is a way to build on the measures that the municipality has taken with regard to the air quality and to cover the entire territory of the municipality. The project proposal includes the implementation of measures for conducting information and communication campaigns to change behavior and the introduction of an effective mechanism for investment in alternative to solid fuels, heating systems for the households. The project will contribute to improving ambient air quality by reducing PM10 emissions with a source of solid fuel domestic heating for the entire territory of the municipality, with the target groups being: 4257 dwellings on the territory of the municipality and population by 2025 - 206964 people.
