The municipalities of the Veliko Tarnovo Regional Urban Area are eligible beneficiaries under procedure No. BG16FFPR002-2.004 under priority 2 "Waste" of the POS 2021-2027. The focus of the project proposal is on building municipal systems for separate collection of the entire amount of food and garden biowaste, which is collected through the municipal systems for mixed collection of BO and upgrading the installation for their recycling. The municipalities of the Veliko Tarnovo Regional Urban Area plan to build municipal systems for separate collection and transportation of food and green/garden waste and to upgrade the existing composting installation, which should cover a new 19,864.12 tons of waste and also provide capacity to accommodate the currently separately collected amounts of biodegradable waste. The project proposal envisages upgrading the installation, including: Branch 1 – for composting plant waste in an existing tunnel composter and construction of 2 pcs. compost rows, separated into cells, with an automated system for stirring and covering the rows with a semi-permeable membrane. The expected capacity is up to 14,671.84 t/y. Branch 2 – composting of food waste in automated containers. The expected capacity of module 2 is up to 9,104.96 t/y. For the composting of food waste, an innovative technology has been selected, allowing an automated effective composting process, without the release of odors, based on strict control of the parameters and the addition of a specific set of microorganisms. The composting of food waste will be carried out according to a developed sample recipe in containers equipped with a cargo elevator, an infrared camera and a process control system. For financing the project proposal from the scope of the new 19,864.12 t. the capacity of the existing tunnel composter 1 of 7000 t has been subtracted, thus the biodegradable waste used to determine the funding is 12,864.2 t/year
