Regional association for waste management - Lovech region, including the municipalities of Lovech, Letnitsa and Ugarchin, offers a project that provides design and construction of a composting plant with a capacity of 4583 t/year, which will be located on the territory of the municipality of Lovech and will processes separately collected biodegradable household biowaste from the settlements on the territory of the three municipalities. A system for the separate collection and transportation of biodegradable waste will be built by purchasing suitable containers for the separate collection of biodegradable biowaste at the place of its generation and equipment for transporting it to the composting plant. Equipment for the on-site collection and pre-treatment of green bio-waste for settlements will also be supplied. Focus will be placed on increasing the awareness and behavior of the population for sustainable waste management in the region by holding live information meetings with the citizens in the settlements on the territory of the three municipalities and organizing publications in local media, which will provide information on the benefits of separate collection of biodegradable waste, methods and requirements for separate waste collection, etc. The socio-economic benefits of project implementation are aimed at providing a new type of service to residents. New jobs will also be created. The environmental benefits of the project are to provide a significant contribution to the fulfillment of the requirements after 2023 for mandatory separate collection of bio-waste, to achieve the goals by 2030 to reduce the amount of landfilled household waste, as well as to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from reducing of landfilled biodegradable waste. The implementation of the project will contribute to reducing a significant part of the amount of household waste deposited in the municipalities of Lovech, Letnitsa and Ugarchin and increasing the amount of recycled waste.
