Integrated project for economic growth, tourism development, green economy, sustainable urban mobility and environmental protection in the Southeast region

The project aims to drive economic development and enhance the tourism and environmental potential of the Southeastern region through measures funded by the 2021-2027 Regional Development Program, which are being implemented in Sliven Province, Nova Zagora and Sliven Municipality. In the village of Banya, Nova Zagora Municipality, the project plans to establish a multifunctional commercial-tourism zone, featuring a farmers' market, artisan production areas, a wine sector, an SME zone, and designated spaces for recreation, water attractions, and camping. As part of the activities carried out by Nova Zagora Municipality, sustainable infrastructure will be developed, including the rehabilitation of roads and green spaces, and the creation of facilities for cultural and commercial events. Innovative, eco-friendly construction methods will be used, in line with the principles of the New European Bauhaus. In Sliven Municipality, the primary activities focus on the development of tourism and environmental projects to improve opportunities for recreation and sports. These include the construction of a cycling route along the Tundzha River—from Zhrebchevo Reservoir to the village of Zhelyo Voyvoda—and the creation of cross-country trails. Recreational areas with gazebos, barbecue spots, and relaxation zones will be developed in the villages of Mechkarevo, Samuilovo, Krushare, and Zhelyo Voyvoda. Green schools and workshops for practical skills will be set up in Samuilovo, along with a farmers' market in Krushare, creating conditions for sustainable tourism and eco-friendly leisure. The project also aims to explore and preserve historical sites along the river, including old bridges and mineral baths, to protect the region's cultural heritage. This integrated approach combines economic, social, cultural, and environmental aspects, with the goal of stimulating local businesses, boosting tourism, and creating sustainable development opportunities for the region.
