The project aims to contribute to improving the conservation status of forest natural habitats through the pilot implementation of measures 46 and 48 of the National Priority Action Framework for NATURA 2000 for Bulgaria on the territory of the North-Eastern State Enterprise (NESE). The project envisages the implementation of scientific, experimental, demonstration and training activities aimed at improving the species composition of forest natural habitats, as well as at the transformation of shoot plantations into seed plantations. The activities of the project will be carried out in target sites falling in 10 territorial divisions of the SIDP DP and 4 protected areas of the NATURA 2000 network: BG0000133, BG0000104, BG0000117 and BG0000107. The main silvicultural interventions envisaged by the project include: removal of shoots and understory vegetation of unwanted tree species, silencing seed saplings; supporting natural regeneration in forest types of natural habitats; studies, experimentation, demonstration and implementation of silvicultural practices for the transformation of coppice forests into seed forests; conducting trainings for employees of NESE. To support the implementation of forestry interventions, the purchase of specialized forestry equipment and vehicles for workers and employees of the NESE, engaged in the implementation of the project activities, is also planned. As a result of project implementation, it is expected to achieve an improvement of the conservation status for four types of forest natural habitats - 91I0/484acres/, 91H0/252acres/, 91M0/75822acres/ and 91W0/279acres/ in 4 protected areas of the NATURA 2000 network in North-Eastern Bulgaria on a total area of 76837acres, increasing the capacity of NESE employees to improve and maintain the favorable environmental status of forest natural habitats, as well as increased public awareness of the need to protect forest natural habitats and protected areas from the NATURA 2000 network.
