The project „ Interdisciplinary training of doctoral students to develop knowledge and competencies in various branches of modern research for healthy life and clean technologies“ (INTERDOC) offers training of 24 full-time PhD students to acquire competence from four professional areas – Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biotechnologies, and Pharmacy as a cross-sectional field. The PhD students will be trained by a consortium of three partners: Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohrdiski“ (SU) as the main applicant with its Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy (FCP) and Faculty of Biology (BF), Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry (IGIC) of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and Shumen University „St. Konstantin Preslavski“ (ShU) represented by its Faculty of Natural Sciences (FNS). The education of the PhD students will take place on specially selected topics focused on practice-oriented research on materials and processes for improvement of the quality of life or related to circular or low-carbon economy, innovations in biotechnology and pharmacy, or support of the green transition. PhD candidates from the whole country will be attracted and preference will be given to joint PhD projects either with associated partners from the industry or with co-supervision from the different partners of the consortium. The young scientists funded by the project will be stimulated to pursue careers in those industrial sectors across the country that suffer the most from a lack of qualified researchers with interdisciplinary skills in natural sciences and pharmacy.
