One of the biggest challenges regarding higher education is ensuring that it matches the skills and occupations needed in the labor market in a timely manner. On the basis of the identified challenges for higher education in the training of doctoral students and the specific need for personnel holding PhD on the labor market, UNWE as the number one business university in the Republic of Bulgaria (RB) and UFT-Plovdiv as a leading university in the field of food and biotechnology should upgrade the training of their PhD students. Recognizing the need to train PhD students with a focus on Industry 5.0, green transition, blue growth and ISIS areas, UNWE will partner with UFT, enabling the sharing of resources and know-how. The establishment of doctoral schools for the training of doctoral students will enable the development of innovative and interdisciplinary training of doctoral students at UNWE, in partnership with UFT to achieve a higher quality of teaching and scientific results. The implementation of the project will contribute to improving the applicability of the labor market and the quality of higher education and increasing knowledge and creating skills for the transition to a green economy at all levels of higher education. It will be complemented by the participation of associated partners who have addressed specific business needs through a justified need for R&D personnel holding a PhD. The implementation of short-term mobilities by the doctoral students and academic staff of UNWE and UFT in EU countries, as well as partners from the ENGAGE.EU alliance, will contribute to increasing the quality and applicability of the planned doctoral programs and opening them to international cooperation. The project addresses specific identified needs of the following target groups: PhD students and academic staff from UNWE from PF 3.8 Economics and UFT from PF 5.3 Communication and computer technology, PF 5.11 Biotechnologies, and PF 5.12 Food technologies.
