The common octopus is the most important fishery resource in Portugal at the level of monetary value. Its aquaculture can relieve pressure from natural stocks, but there is an urgent need to establish proper regulations for the welfare of the octopus. OCTOCULT intends to evaluate, in a multidisciplinary way, a set of potential animal welfare indicators in the areas of biochemistry, behavior, physiology and immunology.
