Environmental burdens represent a long-term serious environmental problem in Slovakia. In the past, they arose mainly from the unprofessional handling of dangerous substances that directly or indirectly entered individual environmental compartments and contaminated them for a long time. The originators of pollution have not been legally forced to take measures to eliminate it or to minimise its negative effects on the environment and human health, as a result of which there are many confirmed environmental burdens on our territory today. By Resolution of the Government of the Slovak Republic No 93/2018 of 21 February 2018, the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic was designated as the competent ministry in the field of environmental burdens pursuant to Section 5(7) of Act No 409/2011. The outputs of the geological task will be: the geological task project, the remediated environmental burden including its remediation, the site monitoring system built, the site monitoring system handed over to the organisation under the control of the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic, the updated registration letter of the site to the Environmental Burdens Information System, the final report on the remediation of the environmental burden with an updated risk analysis of the polluted area, two independent opposing opinions. After the completion of the remediation works, a final report on the remediation of the environmental burden will be drawn up. It shall include documentation of the remediation process, the starting state of the pollutant concentrations as well as the state after the remediation has been completed. It will evaluate its success in terms of meeting the remediation targets. The final report will also include an updated (positive) risk analysis of the contaminated site, which, after the remediation works have been carried out, will reassess the existence of environmental and health risks at the site of interest. The final report will be drawn up in accordance with Annex 9 to Decree No 51/2008 implementing the Geological Act, as amended.
