Purpose of the project: The aim of the project is a radical reconstruction and intensification of the Stakčín water treatment plant, which provides drinking water for more than 856 000 inhabitants in the regions of Prešov and Košice. This project responds to the growing demand for high-quality drinking water and foresees an intensification of the development of public water supply systems as a result of the implementation of EU-supported water structures. The implementation of the project will achieve the modernisation of the technological equipment of the plant, which also requires changes in the construction structures. Improvements in water treatment technology aim to substantially improve the quality of water supplied, especially in areas such as eutrophication, the presence of arsenic, antimony and microbiological contaminants. Expected results: Capacity increase of the plant: The project will provide quality drinking water for 856 043 people. Improving access to water: It is expected that 664 412 inhabitants will be connected to improved public water supply, increasing the number of water users by 20 971. Better quality drinking water: The modification of the technology will significantly improve the parameters of the treated water, which will contribute to the protection of public health and the environment. Meeting legislative requirements: The project complies with Council Directive 98/83/EC on the quality of water intended for human consumption and Act No 364/2004 on water, as well as other relevant legislation. The implementation of these activities will ensure the long-term access of the population of 46 municipalities to high-quality drinking water, thus substantially improving the standard of living in the regions concerned.
