WWTP Šamorín - intensification of WWTP

The town of Šamorín is located in the Trnava region, in the district of Dunajská Streda, in the Danubian Lowland on the left bank of the Danube. It is an important regional centre with an increasing population and infrastructure development, and its development places increased demands on existing urban wastewater collection and treatment systems. The city is one of the eligible agglomerations within the meaning of Council Directive 91/271/EEC concerning urban waste water treatment and the Slovak national programme for the implementation of that Directive. The current capacity of the Šamorín WWTP is no longer sufficient for the efficient treatment of waste water in line with EU discharge quality requirements. As things stand, there is a lack of clean-up, which poses an environmental risk to receiving waters and groundwater in the region. Objective and purpose of the project The main objective of the project is the intensification of the existing Šamorín WWTP, which will ensure: Increasing the capacity and efficiency of urban wastewater treatment, Eliminating environmental risks associated with insufficient treatment, Improving the quality of groundwater and surface water, Compliance with European and national legislation on the protection of water resources. The project responds to the need to upgrade and strengthen the existing cleaning infrastructure to meet current technical standards and environmental requirements. Compliance with national and international legislation The project fully complies with national and European legislation in the field of urban wastewater management: Council Directive 91/271/EEC concerning urban waste water treatment, Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC, Water Act No 364/2004 (Water Act), National Programme of the Slovak Republic for the implementation of Directive 91/271/EEC, Operational Programme Quality of the Environment – measures to improve the quality of waste water. The intensification of the Šamorín WWTP will create the conditions for achieving a higher level of environmental protection and ensuring quality conditions for the inhabitants of the city and its wider surroundings. Measurable project indicators - New or upgraded waste water treatment capacity 10 000.00 p.e. - Population connected to at least secondary public waste water treatment 3849 persons
