VIESDOSLAV WATER AND CANALIZATION

The municipality of Hviezdoslavov is located in the district of Dunajská Streda, in the Trnava Self-Governing Region. It is situated in the southern part of the Danubian Lowland, in the territory of the Protected Water Management Area (CHVO) Žitný ostrov, which represents a significant source of groundwater in Slovakia. In recent years, the municipality has experienced intensive population growth and urbanisation development, but this is not matched by the technical infrastructure for wastewater collection and treatment or the provision of public water supply. Hviezdoslavov is part of the Kvetoslavov agglomeration. Within this agglomeration, public sewerage and connection to the Hubice WWTP in the neighbouring village of Kvetoslavov have already been built. However, the municipality of Hviezdoslavov does not yet have a public sewerage system and residents are dependent on individual cesspools, which causes a risk of groundwater contamination in the SPA. There is also a lack of public water supply, forcing residents to use individual wells with unproven water quality. In accordance with the long-term concepts of infrastructure development, the town plan and the plans for water management development of the Slovak Republic, it is necessary to ensure the completion of the public water supply and sewerage network with connection to the existing Šamorín WWTP. This WWTP has sufficient capacity and is located in the operation of Západoslovenská vodárenská spoločnosť, a.s., which will also be the operator of newly built networks. Objective and purpose of the project The aim of the project is the construction of public sewerage and water supply in the village Hviezdoslavov, which: ensure the collection and treatment of urban waste water in accordance with Directive 91/271/EEC, eliminate the environmental risk to groundwater in the Žitný ostrov SPA, create a comprehensive technical infrastructure commensurate with the rapid development of the municipality, ensure the same standard as in the municipality of Kvetoslavov and fully meet the target for the whole agglomeration. Compliance with national and European legislation The project complies with the following documents and legislation: Council Directive 91/271/EEC concerning urban waste water treatment, Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC, Water Act No 364/2004 (Water Act), National Programme of the Slovak Republic for the implementation of Directive 91/271/EEC, Programme Slovakia 2021-2027, measures 2.5.2 and 2.5.4. The implementation of the project will meet national and European objectives in the field of environmental policy and water protection, reduce the load on groundwater resources, while ensuring the availability of drinking water from a public source for all inhabitants of the municipality. Measurable project indicators PO053 - Length of new sewer pipes:15,3883 km PO052 - Length of new water pipes: 11.5557 km PR034 – Population connected to secondary waste water treatment: 2 700 persons PR033 - Population connected to the public water supply: 2 700 persons
