The project ‘Modernisation of selected sections on Class I roads in the PO and KE region - Stage 1’ aims at improving the technical parameters of selected sections of Class I roads. Selected sections of Class I roads play a key role for transit traffic as well as for source and destination traffic in the region, and their importance is highlighted by the incomplete network of motorways and expressways, with the result that there is often no adequate replacement for existing routes. The modernization and realization of the reconstruction of the 1st class roads will improve the structural and technical condition of the selected sections and from the point of view of economic efficiency is a prerequisite for a quick return on the funds spent so far under normal maintenance. Without the reconstruction works, there would be a further expansion of defects on important structural parts of the selected sections. The project is aimed at upgrading the following road sections: - I/79 Lotty - Slovenské Nové Mesto - the length of the reconstruction section is 9.941 km. - I/79 Vranov nad Topľou - Parchovany - the length of the reconstruction section is 9.996 km. The total length of the reconstructed sections is 19.937 km. The above-mentioned modernisation objectives can be achieved by replacing and reinforcing the upper asphalt layers of the road, completely replacing the entire road structure, replacing and supplementing the safety features, removing rainwater from the road surface, reconstructing the passes and bridge, improving the vertical and horizontal traffic markings, securing rocky slopes, installing safety lighting for pedestrian crossings.
