Upgrading of selected sections on Class I roads in the PO and KE region – Phase 1 – I/66 Popová – Hranovnica, Section I Vernár – Phase 2

The project ‘Modernisation of selected sections on Class I roads in the PO and KE region – 1st stage – I/66 Popová – Hranovnica, I. section Vernár – 2nd stage’ addresses the reconstruction in the section Popová – Hranovnica at the road station of km 62,336 to km 70,930 with a total length of 8,314 km. The section of road I/66 concerned crosses the cadastral territory of the municipality of Vernár. The I/66 road in the section in question starts on the southern side of the Low Tatras, where it crosses with the I/67 road, continues through the Vernárske saddle, the Vernár intra-village and ends in the extra-village between the villages of Vernár and Hranovnica. The project is divided into two parts: 1st part of km 62,336 – 68,486 with a length of 6 150 m. 2nd part of km 68,766 – 70,930 with a length of 2 164 m. A total of 8 314 m. The aim of the construction is the construction modifications, modernisation of the given road section I/66 - elimination of the unsuitable technical condition of the road body due to road wear due to traffic loads, climatic conditions and uncompacted road due to the extension of the original road. The purpose of the construction is to modernize the section of road I/66 in question and thus, in terms of a comprehensive transport solution in the given territory, to ensure safety, continuity, increase the comfort of transport, reduce the negative impact of road transport on the environment of the country and the population. The above-mentioned modernisation objectives can be achieved by replacing and reinforcing the upper asphalt layers of the road, completely replacing the entire road structure, replacing and supplementing the safety features, removing rainwater from the road surface, reconstructing the passes and bridge, improving the vertical and horizontal traffic markings, securing rocky slopes, installing safety lighting for pedestrian crossings and building an information system.
