One of the important strategic objectives of the Slovak Republic in the process of European integration is to connect the transport network to the European transport network. The proposed transhipment of the road I/68 Sabinov is in accordance with the Concept of Territorial Development of the Slovak Republic KURS, in accordance with the spatial plan of the higher territorial unit of the Prešov Self-Governing Region. In the view section Šarišské Michaľany – Prešov, the section of road pavement in question is connected to the superior road transport infrastructure – the R4 Prešov expressway, the northern bypass. The state road I/68 forms the main communication corridor for the connection of the Republic of Poland with Prešov, the third largest city in Slovakia, and thus the connection to the north-south road. Since no part of the network of motorways and expressways is planned in the given area, the I/68 road will also be the main link of cities such as Prešov, Sabinov or Stará Ľubovňa in the future. In order to ensure the continuity and increase the safety of transport, it is necessary to ensure safe and high-quality infrastructure in such a way that it interferes as little as possible with the lives of the inhabitants. On road I/68, it is proposed to do this also by bypassing the town of Sabinov, or by modifying the roads of lower classes.
